GWM Malaysia has one of the more exciting booth displays here at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2026 (KLIMS). With 2 new model previews, obstacle test drives, technology showcase and a full model line up on display.

Taking centre stage is the preview of the HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV and ORA 5 HEV. Two SUVs that will expand GWM’s appeal towards those looking for a lifestyle SUVs.

HAVAL H7 How is it Different from TANK 300?

HAVAL H7 is a rugged boxy off-road SUV with similar appeal to the TANK 300 however there is one key difference – chassis. The TANK 300 rides on a ladder-frame chassis designed to better withstand hardcore terrains while the HAVAL H7 is built on a monocoque chassis just like regular family SUVs.

This means that the HAVAL H7 has better on-road comfort more suited for city driving while the TANK 300 is more durable during extreme off-roading and stronger towing capacity.

Powering the H7 is GWM’s proprietary Hybrid Intelligent 4WD (Hi-4)PHEV system that combines a 1.5L turbo petrol engine and 2 electric motors – front: 95 PS & 170 Nm; rear: 204 PS & 350 Nm – giving a combined system output of 370 PS & 750 Nm.

A 27.54-kWh LFP battery gives the H7 Hi4 PHEV a WLTP pure electric range of 115 km. GWM claims a fuel consumption as low as 1.13L/100 km with the battery charged. On low battery charge it can still return 5.99L/100 km. With its 55L fuel tank, the H7 Hi4 PHEV is able to cover up to 1,000 km on a single tank and charge.

While it is not a hardcore off-roader, it’s still able to take on the beaten tracks thanks to its 7 drive modes – ECO, Normal, Sport, Mud, Sand, Snow & 4WD and electronic locking rear differential.

Should it be launched in Malaysia, it will go head-to-head with the Jetour T2 PHEV estimated price from RM168,888 with 360 PS & 610 Nm.

ORA 5 HEV in the RM100 – 120k Price Range?

ORA is no longer an EV-only line up with the imminent arrival of the ORA 5 HEV. Powered by a 1.5T hybrid with a combined output of 223 PS & 476 Nm. It’s able to return up to 1,200 km of range on the back of a claimed fuel consumption of 4.4L/100 km.

It’s roughly the size of a Toyota Corolla Cross but it’s 2,720 mm wheelbase (similar to a Honda CR-V) allows for a roomier cabin.

GWM Malaysia is looking to woo buyers who are looking for a chic alternative with an efficient powertrain and upmarket interior. Highly likely it will be the brand’s next model launch as registration of interest are now open for the ORA 5 HEV.

When launched, it will most definitely be locally assembled to secure a competitive price point, likely positioned below the HAVAL H6 (RM139,800). How does RM100 – 120k sounds to you?
